Know the myths and keep your heart safe
There are many false claims surrounding cardiac arrests and heart disease, we call these ‘heart myths’. Our Heart Safe training will dispel some of those, and teach you skills that could save a life.
US Officer, Bryan Platz is the founder of the Heart Safe program in the US, where he has trained hundreds of thousands of people on how to spot and intervene in a Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
9 out of 10 people do not survive a SCA. After witnessing the tragic death of a cardiac arrest victim where bystanders were unable to help, Bryan realized that there is vital work to be done to bring that statistic down.
Heart Safe has become a community effort, and Titania are pleased to be involved in bringing this free lifesaving training to Worcester for the second year running.
Busting heart myths and raising awareness
Myth: When you’re giving CPR to a Sudden Cardiac Arrest victim, you can hurt them.
Fact: The victim of a Sudden Cardiac Arrest is quickly becoming clinically dead and will remain lifeless unless some CPR action is taken.
Myth: Vitamins and supplements can protect against heart disease.
Fact: Research on antioxidant vitamins and beta carotene towards promoting heart health has proven inconclusive.
Myth: Exercise is bad for those with a heart disease.
Fact: Exercise reduces further development of heart disease, and makes it less likely to have a recurrent heart problem.
Myth: Once you have heart disease, that’s it.
Fact: Research has shown that some damage to the heart can be repaired through lifestyle changes. Also, diet, exercise and not smoking can go a long way to prevent any heart affections.
Myth: The best exercise for your heart is cardio
Fact: Not necessarily and not for everyone. Too much cardio can strain the heart. Cardio is not always enough. Sometimes a mix of cardio and strength is best.
